Sands are exploited from Gabal El Khashab near Maadi, Cairo (80000 tons per year) from Zaafarana along the Red Sea coast (60000 tons per Year) and from Sinai (500000 tons per year). This Sand in particulr that from Sinai and Zaafarana is quite pure and is used for the manufacture of glass sheets, crystal and different glass containers. White Maddi sand is used in foundries and filters and glass products.
